Halifax District RCMP is hosting a gathering of members of the RCMP Auxiliary Constable Program in Lower Sackville.

They come from all life and work backgrounds, but one thing is for sure— they’re all dedicated auxiliary constables with hundreds of hours of community policing experience.

Today, more than 2,000 auxiliary constables volunteer across Canada. These men and women are specially trained volunteers who work in the community, supplementing the work of regular members by spending time with seniors, running drug awareness programs and simply being visible and available— all while maintaining full-time jobs elsewhere.

‘The auxiliary constable program is an integral component of our crime prevention programs. These individuals have dedicated significant amounts of their personal time to volunteer and assist the RCMP in meeting our mandates. Their exceptional commitment to the program is greatly appreciated,’ says Inspector Dan Murchison, Operations East officer-in-charge . (Inspector Murchison also oversees the Community Policing Program for Halifax District.)

To show appreciation, Halifax RCMP senior managers will present the 50-year- anniversary coins to the volunteers. To mark the 50th anniversary and present auxiliary constables with a memento, the RCMP held a contest to design a commemorative coin.
