No injuries were reported after a Sunday fire on Preston Street.
When speaking with Capt. Cliff Messervey, he indicated that they were called by a tenant of the house and when they arrived on scene that the lone occupant had made it out safely. There are other tenants that reside there but none were home at the time of the fire.
Upon arrival there was smoke showing from the roof (side facing Pepperell St). They immediately entered the house and ensured that there were no other occupants in the home.
The fire was described as “a stubborn fire in the roof”. They had to cut away parts of the walls inside to make sure that the fire was not spreading inside the walls of the structure and commented that there were multiple structures in the walls/roof.
He said that they are not sure of the extent of damage at this time but there is some water and smoke damage to the house and investigators would be on site to determine cause and location of origin.
