Updated: Shooting On Trinity Avenue In Dartmouth

Man Charged in Double Shooting
 
A man faces charges in relation to the double shooting which occurred yesterday on Trinity Avenue in Dartmouth.
 
At 9:21 a.m., police received a report of shots fired in the parking lot of an apartment building in the 0-100 block of Trinity Avenue. A 26-year-old woman was shot in the face and a 27-year-old man was shot in the torso. The woman was transported to hospital by EHS, while the male victim flagged down and entered a passing vehicle, driven by a person unknown to him, and then called 911. Police and EHS met the vehicle at the bus terminal on Nantucket Avenue, from which the male victim was transported to hospital by EHS. Both victims suffered injuries that are described as non-life-threatening.
 
Two men were arrested yesterday around noon following a traffic stop of a silver SUV at Forest Hills Parkway and Main Street. One man was released without charges and the other man faces numerous charges. Thirty-four-year-old Terry Arthur Downey of North Preston will be remanded into custody and scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on Monday, December 30 to face the following charges:

267(a) CC – Assault with a Weapon X 2
244(1) CC – Discharge Firearm with Intent X 2
244.2(1)(b) CC – Discharge Firearm Recklessly X 2

86(2) CC – Unsafe Storage of a Firearm
87 CC – Pointing a Firearm
88 CC – Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
92(1) CC – Possession of a Firearm Knowing it is Unauthorized
117.01(1) CC – Fail to Comply with Order
 
Update Friday 1:30pm:
Police have arrested two men, who are believed to be connected to this morning’s shooting, as a result of a traffic stop involving a silver SUV on Forest Hills Parkway at 11:57 a.m. 
 
The investigation is continuing to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the involvement of four individuals (originally reported as three) who were located in Cole Harbour as well as the two men who were arrested during the traffic stop on Forest Hills Parkway.
 
Police have seized a total of three vehicles in relation to this file – a black car on Auburn Drive in Cole Harbour, a red car on Downey Road in North Preston whose female driver was released, and the silver SUV on Forest Hills Parkway. Police have information to suggest that both the red car and black car fled the scene on Trinity Avenue following the shooting.
 
At this point in the investigation, it has been determined that the two shooting victims know one another and the shooting suspect knows both victims. At this time, the injuries of both shooting victims are described as non-life-threatening.
 
This investigation continues to evolve  and updates will be provided as they become available.

The HRP/RCMP Integrated General Investigation Section is currently investigating a shooting that occurred this morning in Dartmouth.
 
At 9:21 a.m., police received a report of shots fired in the parking lot of an apartment building in the 0-100 block of Trinity Avenue. At this point in the investigation, it is believed that a woman was shot in the face and a man was shot in the torso. The woman was transported to hospital by EHS, while the male victim flagged down and entered a passing vehicle, driven by a person unknown to him, and then called 911. Police and EHS met the vehicle at the bus terminal on Nantucket Avenue, from which the male victim was transported to hospital by EHS.
 
Following the incident, officers located a vehicle in Cole Harbour that was believed to have fled the scene on Trinity Avenue and subsequently located two men and one woman. Investigators will be speaking with these individuals to determine their possible involvement in the incident.
