For several months, RCMP have been investigating a rash of offences in the Town of Pictou, including break and enters, theft, mischief to property and more recently, arson.

For several months, RCMP have been investigating a rash of offences in the Town of Pictou, including break and enters, theft, mischief to property and more recently, arson.

A break in the case earlier this week lead RCMP to two males from Pictou who were subsequently arrested and charged with several offences each.

‘These events have had a negative impact on our communities and we have taken these actions very seriously. We have committed a significant number of resources to investigate, arrest and hold those responsible accountable for their actions’, says Sgt. Kevin Dunlevy, Operations NCO with the Pictou County District RCMP. ‘We have arrested two males in these break-ins and our investigation will continue in order to identify other persons who may have been involved. We are still urging Pictou residents to ensure their vehicles, sheds and homes are locked and for businesses to install appropriate security measures.’

Richard Stuart Thompson, 18, from Pictou has been charged with four counts of Break and Enter, and one count of Arson. Thompson has been released on strict conditions and will return to court in Pictou on November 10, 2014.

A youth male from Pictou, who cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has also been charged with four counts of Break and enter, four counts of breaching the conditions of his probation order, and one count of arson. The youth has been remanded in custody until October 22nd when he will return to Pictou Provincial Court to face these charges.
