Plans for the future of the Bedford Waterfront

A public design workshop was held on April 15, 2009. About 60 people participated in the event resulting in the creation of eight land use options for the waterfront amongst the eight tables who worked on plans.

The plan will guide the development of the Bedford waterfront including much of the surrounding waterfront area around the Sobeys Plaza, Moirs Pond and the Fire Station.

The study area for this plan generally encompasses the lands between the Bedford Highway and Bedford Basin, from the Boutiler Boatyard to the Clearwater Seafoods property.

The complete build-out is expected to take place in at least 10 years but the plan and associated policies will guide the placement, mix, style, and scale of development and open space as it develops over the next decade.

Now is your chance to have a say in what the waterfront can become.

The waterfront study will run until October 2009. The outcomes will then be used to formulate land use policy for the Municipal Planning Strategy and zoning By-law into 2010.

The study includes four opportunities for input and feedback as outlined below:

1-A public design workshop was held on April 15.

2-An online survey went live on April 16 at www.halifax.ca.

3-A presentation of the three design concepts is scheduled for Wednesday, June 10 commencing at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria at Basinview Community School at 273 Basinview Drive in Bedford.

4-A presentation of the final master plan will be scheduled in October 2009.
