Police and volunteer deliver the ‘Hawkeye’ message, Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM), N.S.

December 6, 2013, Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) . . . Halifax District RCMP, RCMP Citizens on Patrol, local Auxiliary Constables and the Stetsons and Spurs will be conducting a high-visibility foot patrols in shopping areas in HRM.

On Saturday as part of the RCMP Holiday Crime Prevention strategy ‘Operation Hawkeye’, officers, and volunteers will be patrolling the shopping mall parking lots in Tantallon, Lower Sackville, and Cole Harbour. They will be handing out theft prevention flyers reminding people to keep valuables out of site and always lock their vehicles.

‘Theft from Motor Vehicle is a crime of opportunity,’ says Cst. Brenda Elson, co-ordinator of the Stetsons and Spurs. ‘Our youth want to help and they are eager to get the message out that it really is a preventable crime. It is also great to see the many volunteers helping out today.’

Over the course of the holiday season, RCMP will continue to remind people about the importance of locking their vehicles. Anyone observing suspicious activity in or around parked vehicles should report it to police immediately. HRM Partners in Policing wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season.
