Police and volunteers deliver the ‘Hawkeye’ message, Eastern Passage, N.S.

Halifax District RCMP, RCMP Citizens on Patrol and local RCMP Auxiliary Constables will be conducting high-visibility foot patrols in shopping areas in Eastern Passage and Forest Hills.

On Saturday, December 20th, as part of the RCMP Holiday Crime Prevention strategy ‘Operation Hawkeye’, RCMP and volunteers will be patrolling the streets and small businesses in Eastern Passage.

The team will also be heading to the parking lot of the Walmart and Sobeys/Canadian Tire Complex in Forest Hills. They will be handing out theft prevention flyers reminding people to keep valuables out of sight and always lock their vehicles.

‘Theft from Motor Vehicle is a crime of opportunity,’ says Cst. Brenda Elson, co-ordinator of the RCMP Volunteer Program in Cole Harbour. ‘Our volunteers want to help and they are eager to get the message out that it really is a preventable crime. It is also great to see the many volunteers helping out today.’

Over the course of the holiday season, RCMP will continue to remind people about the importance of locking their vehicles. Anyone observing suspicious activity in or around parked vehicles should report it to police immediately. Halifax District RCMP and Halifax Regional Police- Partners in Policing- wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season.
