(Updated) Police are investigating a suspicious death that occurred last night in Dartmouth

Update: The 64 year old male who was arrested in relation to this matter has been release without charges at this time.

Police are investigating a suspicious death that occurred last night in Dartmouth.

At 8:54 p.m. on November 22, police responded to a report of an assault at Clarmar Care Ltd., a continuing care facility at 200 Main Street in Dartmouth. It was reported that a 64-year-old male resident got into a physical altercation with a 70-year-old male resident. Shortly after the altercation, the 70-year-old man suffered a medical event. He was attended to by EHS but passed away at 9:22 p.m. at the facility.

The 64-year-old-man was arrested at the scene without incident and transported to police headquarters for questioning, where he remains at this time.

An autopsy was conducted this morning by the Medical Examiner’s Office; however, more in-depth testing, which is anticipated to take some time, is required to determine the manner of death.

Investigators with the Special Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division are leading the investigation which is ongoing.
