A 39-year-old Kentville man has been charged with several firearms offences after police searched his camper van.
Last evening at approximately 10:40 p.m., a citizen reported to police that the during a conversation with a man earlier in the evening at Lawrencetown Beach, the man claimed to have guns and weapons inside his camper van, which was parked at the beach. The man also produced what appeared to be a handgun from his pocket during the conversation. Shortly before 3 a.m., officers with Halifax District RCMP, Police Dog Services and the Halifax Regional Police Emergency Response Team responded to the parking lot of Lawrencetown Beach, surrounded the camper van, and ordered the man out of the vehicle. The man exited the vehicle without incident and police seized several BB guns and a loaded .22 calibre rifle.
Kristopher Evan Barkhouse was arrested and charged with the following offences:
- Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
- Unsafe Storage of a Firearm
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
Barkhouse has since been released from custody and will be appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court at a later date. The investigation is continuing.
