Police arrest man with hatchet in early morning incident

Police have charged a man in relation to an incident that occurred yesterday in Halifax.

At approximately 2:40 a.m. on April 21, officers were called to an apartment building on Evans Avenue in relation to a weapons call. Officers located a man inside an apartment with a hatchet. The man initially refused to exit the apartment and officers deployed a sensory irritant. The man then came out of the apartment and was arrested without further incident. Officers seized a hatchet and a replica firearm. There were no reported injuries. 

Scott David Goldsmith, 36, is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court today to face one count of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and two counts of mischief (property damage).
