Police car struck by stolen truck while investigating stolen van

At 5:22 p.m. on January 15h, Halifax Regional Police officers responded to a report of a van driving on walking trails in the 0-100 block of Lancaster Drive, Dartmouth.  Officers located an abandoned stolen van on a walking trail.  At 6:30 p.m., a dark pickup truck with a plow was driving on a flat tire on Lancaster Drive toward officers investigating the recovered stolen van.  Officers activated emergency equipment and attempted to the stop the truck.  The truck did not stop and fled the area striking parked cars and a police vehicle with the plow.  Police called off the pursuit and were able to confirm the truck was stolen.   

At 9:20 p.m., police responded to reports of driving complaints for a dark pickup truck with a plow in the 900 block of Cole Harbour Road.  RCMP and HRP officers responded to the area.  RCMP officers located the truck abandoned.  Officers located and arrested the driver without incident inside a nearby business.  No one was injured and police are not searching for any other suspects.

The driver, a 32-year-old male from Dartmouth, will be held for court and is facing the following Criminal charges, Theft of Motor Vehicle, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Stop After Accident, Flight from Police, Assault Police with a Weapon and Breach of Conditions.

Investigators with Patrol and the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division are conducting the investigation which is in the early stages, additional charges may be pending.
