The provincial RCMP Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit arrested a Cape Breton man for Child Pornography on Tuesday.
After a joint investigation conducted by the RCMP ICE Unit, RCMP Tech Crime Unit and Cape Breton Regional Police Service (CBRPS), two search warrants were executed Tuesday in the Sydney area.
As a result, police seized two laptops from one residence and a 22-year-old man from Cape Breton Regional Municipality was charged with Making Available Child Pornography. He is scheduled to appear in Sydney Provincial Court at 9:00 a.m. on June 5th, 2014.
During the search of one of the residences, police found an unsecured wireless internet connection, leaving it open to public access. Police remind those who pay for internet service to always secure your connection with a password so that individuals cannot conduct illegal activities using your network.
The ICE Unit investigates individuals who victimize children by accessing, making, possessing and/or distributing Child Pornography and investigates the luring of children over the internet for a sexual purpose.
The RCMP and CBRPS encourage all members of our communities to be a voice for those children who are victims of sexual exploitation by reporting any suspected offences to your local police. Use Canada’s National tip line for reporting the online sexual exploitation of children at www.cybertip.ca.
