New Glasgow Regional Police while on routine patrol on East River Road observed a driver in a vehicle smoking. The officer observed the driver smoking while a young person under 19 years of age was also in the vehicle.
The Nova Scotia Smoke-Free Places Act makes it illegal to smoke in a motor vehicle when someone under the age of 19 is present in the vehicle. The law applies to smoking cigarettes, pipes and vaping.
The 32-year-old female driver from Pictou County has been charged under section 5(2((A) of the Smoke Free Places Act, which results in a $406.45 fine.
