Police charge man for sexual assaults

Halifax Regional Police have charged a man for two sexual assaults that occurred Saturday night on a Halifax Transit bus.

On May 20 at 11:11 p.m., police received a report that a male passenger on a Halifax Transit bus approached two 13-year-old female passengers and sexually assaulted them by touching them in a sexual manner. One of the victims called a parent to advise of the assaults, who in turn called police. Police responded and at 11:19 p.m., arrested the man without incident in the 0-100 block of the Bedford Highway. He was held in custody over the weekend.

Twenty-three-year-old Zachery Thomas Richard of Halifax has been charged with two counts of sexual assault, one count of breach of probation and one count of breach of an undertaking. He is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court today to face these charges.
