Police charge man for stunting in high traffic area

At noon today, police charged a man for driving in excess of 60 km/h over the posted speed limit on Highway 111 in Dartmouth.

Shortly before 12 p.m. an East Division Community Response Officer observed a car travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 111 as it approached Exit 5. The officer captured the vehicle’s speed at 144 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

A 35-year-old man from Dartmouth was ticketed for stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act, a charge that is automatically laid when a vehicle is travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit. In addition, he was suspended from driving for one week and his vehicle was seized and towed.

The fine in Nova Scotia for stunting is $2,422.50 and six points are assigned to the driver’s record.
