Police charge man in relation to recent robberies

Police charge 63-year-old Halifax man in relation to recent robberies that occurred in Halifax.

On August 16 at 4:39 p.m., police responded to a report of a robbery at the CIBC Bank at 6429 Quinpool Road in Halifax. A man approached the teller and indicated he had a weapon, although no weapon was seen. The man fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.

On August 21 at 6:40 p.m. officers were dispatched to a report of a robbery at the Shoppers Drug Mart at 6139 Quinpool Road. A suspect approached an employee and produced a note telling them to give him their money. The suspect received an undisclosed amount of money and fled the store.

Yesterday at approximately 5:40 p.m., members of the East Quick Response unit arrested a man outside an address on Crystal Drive in Dartmouth. Today investigators in the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division charged Demetruis James Sotiropoulous in relation to the two robberies. He is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court today to face the following charges:

Robbery contrary to section 344 of the Criminal Code x (2)

Disguise with intent contrary to section 351(2) of the Criminal Code x (2)

Use firearm in the commissioning of an offence contrary to section 85(1) of the Criminal Code

Possession a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to section 88(1) of the Criminal Code

Carry a Concealed weapon] contrary to section 90(1) of the Criminal Code
