Police charge two people for child pornography offences

Police have charged a Halifax man with child pornography offences after a search of a residence in Halifax Yesterday.

At approximately 7:30 a.m. investigators in the Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division conducted a search of an address in the 600 block of Herring Cove Road after receiving information from the National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre that suspected child pornography had been uploaded from an IP address associated to Halifax. Investigators, with the assistance of members of the Digital Forensic Unit, seized a number of electronic devices for forensic analysis.

Two people were arrested without incident. A 42-year-old Halifax woman was charged with one count of possession of child pornography and is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date. Garnet Ray Thacker, 57, of Halifax was charged with one count each of possession of child pornography and distribution of child pornography. He is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court today.

Police ask anyone with information on child pornography to file a report by calling police at 902-490-5020 or by using Cybertip, Canada’s National Tip Line for reporting online sexual exploitation of children, at www.cybertip.ca.
