Police charge two people in relation to shooting

Police have charged a man and a woman in relation to a shooting that occurred last summer in Halifax.

0n July 6, 2022, at approximately 8:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 5800 block of Cunard Street. Officers located a 31-year-old man who had been shot. He was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Officers arrested a woman at the scene in relation to an outstanding warrant for another matter.

In relation to this incident, investigators in the General Investigation Section of the Criminal Investigation Division charged Megan Alana Lake, 29, with:

  • Robbery
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm without a license
  • Discharging a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to a court order (x2)
  • Failure to comply with conditions of a release order (x2)

Lake was scheduled to appear in court at a later date to face the charges and a warrant was issued for a second suspect in the incident.

Last night, members of the Quick Response Unit arrested the suspect in a vehicle in Dartmouth.

Thomas Junior Downey, 36, is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court today to face charges of:

  • Possession of a restricted/prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • Possession of a firearm without a license
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Use of a firearm in the commission of an offence
  • Robbery with a firearm
  • Aggravated assault
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Discharging a firearm with intent
  • Failure to comply with conditions of a release order
