Police charge two youths after theft of vehicles

Officers have charged two youths and recovered two stolen vehicles and stolen property after an incident overnight in Sambro.

At 2:26 a.m., officers responded to Jacqueline Purcell Drive in Portuguese Cove after receiving a report that two youths were breaking into parked vehicles on the street. The youths were last seen leaving the area in a car and were gone when officers arrived on scene. Numerous vehicles were entered and property stolen.

At 3:20 a.m., officers located a car matching the descriptions provided by witnesses off Margus Lane in Sambro. The car was parked next to a pickup truck and both drivers fled the area on foot upon seeing police, leaving both vehicles with the engines running. Numerous officers and a K-9 Unit arrived on scene and arrested both drivers, found hiding in a nearby shed, without incident. The car was previously reported stolen from Timberlea and the truck from Sambro. The property stolen in the original call was also recovered in the stolen car.

Two 16-year-old male youths from Halifax have been held in custody overnight and will appear in Halifax Provincial Youth Court later today. They are each facing the following charges:
