Police chase ends with van smashing into power pole

At 2:13 a.m. a Halifax Regional Police responded to a theft from Kent Building Supplies, 220 Baker Driver Dartmouth.  A van was reported leaving the business as police arrived on scene.  Several marked police vehicles with emergency lights and siren activated attempted the stop the vehicle.  The suspect vehicle did not stop and continued at low and high rates of speed.  The suspect vehicle sped onto on Windmill Road and struck a utility pole in the 800 block.  Officers arrested the driver, a 40-year-old male, the only occupant at the scene.  The driver sustained minor non-life-threatening injuries in the crash and was transported to the hospital.  Officers confirmed the van was reported stolen. 

Traffic Blocked: The Northbound Windmill Road is reduced to two lanes with the curb lane blocked while the utility pole is replaced.

Police and Nova Scotia Power remain on scene in the 800 block of Windmill Road.  Investigators with Patrol and the Forensic Identification Section are conducting the investigation, which is in the early stages.  A 40-year-old male is held for court and facing charges of Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Theft Under, Flight from Police, Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle, Breach of Conditions.
