RCMP release:

RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment responded to a sudden death in Porters Lake after receiving report of a distressed man.

On January 2, at approximately 4 a.m., RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment received a complaint of a distressed man in Porters Lake who was believed to be armed.  Through the investigation, officers determined the man was inside a residence in the 1300 block of West Porters Lake Rd.

RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment, with support from the RCMP Critical Incident Program, including the Crisis Negotiation Team, Emergency Response Team and Police Dog Services, attended the residence. Officers made several attempts to contact the man but he did not respond. No one else was inside the home at the time.

Officers obtained a warrant and entered the home where they located a thirty-year-old man deceased inside the residence. The man’s death is not believed to be suspicious.

Our thoughts are with the man’s loved ones at this difficult time.

West Porters Lake Rd. was closed for a period, and power was turned off in parts of Porters Lake to support the police response. The power was restored and the road was opened as soon as possible. The RCMP would like to thank residents for their cooperation.

The investigation is ongoing and is being led by RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment with assistance of Forensic Identification Services.
