Police Continue to Investigate Murder of Donald Downey

Today marks the 30th anniversary of the murder of Donald Charles Downey and the HRP/RCMP Integrated Criminal Investigation Division continues to investigate the case.

On October 30, 1988, at approximately 1 a.m., police responded to a report of a shooting at 2399 Creighton Street in Halifax. Upon arrival, officers located Donald suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital where he died a short time later.

The investigation revealed that Donald was residing at an Abbey Road address at the time of his death, and he was known to frequent the north end of Halifax and the Uniacke Square area.

Investigators believe there are people who have information that could advance the investigation and hope the passage of time may encourage someone to do the right thing and come forward to police with what they know. They are urging anyone who knows something about Donald’s murder who hasn’t already spoken with police to contact the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division at 902-490-5333. Donald’s case is part of the Nova Scotia Department of Justice Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program. Through this program, the Department of Justice offers cash rewards of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of person(s) responsible for specified major unsolved crimes.
