Today marks the fifth anniversary of the murder of John Newcombe and investigators assigned to the Special Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division continue to investigate the case.
On June 1, 2012, at 2:08 a.m., Halifax Regional Police responded to a report of a shooting at Winston’s bar at 278 Lacewood Drive in Halifax. Upon arrival, officers located 27-year-old John Fulton Newcombe on the sidewalk, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene. An autopsy confirmed he died as a result of injuries sustained from having been shot. The investigation indicates that Mr. Newcombe had just left Winston’s bar when he was shot in the parking lot and that the shooter fled through a walkway towards Willett Street where he was picked up by a vehicle. Police believe that Mr. Newcombe was the intended target of the shooting and this was not a random incident.
Investigators would like to speak with anyone who has not yet spoken with police and who was at Winston’s bar earlier in the evening on May 31, 2012 or who may have witnessed an altercation between Mr. Newcombe and several males outside the bar.
