Police Dismantle Outdoor Marihuana Grow Operation , Lake Wentworth, N.S.

The RCMP Shelburne County Street Crime Enforcement Unit (SCEU) dismantled a large outdoor marihuana grow operation near Shelburne.

On August 30th, at approximately 12:45 p.m., the SCEU, assisted by Shelburne RCMP and Barrington RCMP, searched an area near Lake Wentworth, 11 km north east of Shelburne.

RCMP seized 70 mature marihuana plants in a forested area surrounding the lake. Further investigation allowed RCMP to execute a search warrant at a residence located on Lower Jordan Branch Road in Shelburne County.

A 47-year-old man was arrested without incident. He is scheduled to appear in Shelburne Provincial Court on October 23rd, 2013. He is facing charges of Production of Marihuana, Possession of Marihuana for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Ammunition while Prohibited and Breach of Probation. The investigation is continuing.

Marihuana production and distribution continues to be profitable for persons involved in this criminal activity. Police encourage the public to report suspicious behavior to their local police service or Crime Stoppers at 1 800 222-8477.
