On Saturday, July 23, 2011, at approximately 11:00 p.m., members of Halifax District RCMP and Halifax Regional Police were responding to a report of vehicles being broken into in the area of Ridge View Drive in Lower Sackville.  Police quickly located three suspects.  Two of them fled the scene and were pursued by HRP Police Dog Services.  The suspects were tracked to a wooded area off Kaye Street in Lower Sackville.  They proceeded to attack both the dog and the handler.  The officer and the dog were able to take control of the situation.  Upon the arrival of additional police officers, the two suspects were taken into custody.  The HRP police dog handler and police dog received minor injuries during the altercation.
Three Lower Sackville male youths, ages 14, 15 and 16, are all facing numerous charges including Theft, Assault Police, Resist Arrest and Trespass at Night.  Two of the youth have been released from custody.  The 14-year-old is scheduled to appear in Halifax Youth Court on August 25th and the 15-year-old is scheduled to appear in Halifax Youth Court on August 11th.  The 16-year-old was remanded and was scheduled to appear in court today.
HRM Partners in Policing want to remind people about concerns surrounding the number of recent incidents surrounding property being stolen from vehicles.  Theft from Motor Vehicles is a crime of opportunity.  People are asked to lock their vehicles and remove any valuables, and report suspicious activity to police.
