HRM Partners in Policing are asking motorists to drive with added caution around school buses following a number of incidents.

Between 7:30 a.m. and 9 a.m., officers assigned to the HRP/RCMP Integrated Traffic Unit monitored the area of Hammonds Plains Road and Killarney Drive and issued six summary offences tickets to motorists passing school buses exhibiting flashing red lights.

Motorists are reminded that passing school buses in either direction when the red lights are flashing, regardless of the number of traffic lanes, not only puts children in danger, but is illegal and carries substantial fines. It is also an offence to fail to proceed with caution when passing a school bus exhibiting flashing amber lights.
