Halifax Regional Police is advising citizens who use Point Pleasant Park to expect an increased police presence in the park on Sunday evenings.
As the weather gets warmer, a growing number of motorists and car enthusiasts gathering in the lower parking lot of Point Pleasant Park on Sunday evenings. Due to the number of people attending these informal meetings, police increase patrols to ensure the safety of the individuals involved as well as other people who are using the parking lot.
This has been an ongoing issue for a number of years and it starts to ramp up every spring. Officers have been monitoring the situation since mid-April, and will increase their patrols of the area beginning this week to prevent illegal and dangerous activities and ensure EHS Life Flight’s mobile critical-care ground-transfer unit can access the roadway from the helipad that is adjacent to the lower parking lot. Officers will monitor activities in the area and issue summary offence tickets should the situation warrant.
