Police focus on speeding in roadwork zones

The Halifax Regional Police (HRP)/RCMP Integrated Traffic Unit is focusing on speed enforcement in work zones throughout the month of August.

As of July 10, 2008, legislative amendments came into effect targeting people who speed in roadwork zones. Fines are doubled and demerit points are now assigned to a driver’s record for speeding in roadwork zones. The fines range from $337 for a first offence to $2,407 for a third offence.

The Unit’s focus in July was also speed enforcement. Officers in the Traffic Unit wrote 790 summary offence tickets during the month, including 239 for speeding infractions.
