Release:
(Tuesday, March 15, 2011) – As part of HRM’s commitment to a healthy, sustainable and vibrant community the municipality has contracted to have a district energy trench dug to connect the Halifax Regional Police Headquarters with Centennial Pool. To facilitate the digging of the trench Gottingen Street will be closed to through traffic from Rainnie Drive to Cogswell Street with work expected to commence Thursday, March 17th. Drivers will be able to access the Centennial Pool driveway from Rainnie Drive but not from Cogswell Street. Construction is anticipated to last until approximately March 23, 2011.
This district energy trench will facilitate the exchange of energy between the two municipally owned buildings. Fifty-five solar panels have recently been installed on the roof of the police headquarters and forty-eight panels will be installed on Centennial Pool in the coming weeks. The police headquarters have also recently converted to natural gas and this conduit will allow this energy to flow to Centennial Pool.
