Police Identify Person Charged in Hatcher Homicide

Release:
Police are identifying the man arrested yesterday in connection with
the Brandon Hatcher homicide as 41-year-old Richard Allen Butler of
Halifax.
On December 3, 2010 at 8:37 p.m., police responded to a call of an
injured man in the 100 block of Lavender Walk. Upon arrival, officers
located 20-year-old Brandon Hatcher who had been shot. He was
transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased a short time
later.
Three people currently face charges in connection with the murder,
including a woman who was arrested last week and charged as an accessory
after the fact. As a result of the on-going investigation by officers
assigned to the HRP/RCMP Integrated Major Crime Unit, Butler was
arrested at 3:06 p.m. yesterday without incident at Police Headquarters.
Butler is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court today to face
charges of possession of a weapon, possession of an unauthorized weapon
and breach of a weapon prohibition.
These charges signify another blow to a criminal faction operating in
the Spryfield area. They also serve as another reminder that police will
not only focus their investigation on those people directly involved in
crime but also on anyone who aids and assists people involved in crime.
