Release:
East Hants District RCMP is investigating an assault with a weapon that followed a road rage incident and is seeking information from the public.
On August 2, at approximately 9:50 p.m., RCMP officers and EHS responded to a weapons complaint at a gas station in the 0-100 block of Hwy. 1 in Mount Uniacke.
Upon arrival, officers found a 40-year-old Mount Uniacke man who had been shot with a pellet gun. He was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Through the investigation, officers learned that the man was travelling westbound on Hwy. 101 when a grey Honda Civic changed lanes closely in front of his vehicle after passing on the right. After the victim flashed his high beams, a rear passenger in the Honda flashed a floodlight in response. Both vehicles exited the highway at Mount Uniacke.
The victim pulled into a gas station while the Honda continued toward Sackville before turning around and stopping beside the victim’s vehicle. When the victim exited his vehicle to speak with the other driver, a rear passenger shot him with a BB gun. The Honda then fled north on Hwy. 1.
Investigators are working to identify the vehicle and those involved.
The suspect vehicle is described as a grey, late-model (2010-2016) four-door Honda Civic. The driver is described as a man believed to be in his late teens or early twenties. The rear passenger is also described as a man. There may have been one or two additional occupants. No other descriptions are available.
“A moment of frustration on the road should never escalate into violence,” says Cpl. Mandy Edwards, Nova Scotia RCMP Public Information Officer. “Acts of this nature put public safety at risk and have the potential to cause serious harm.”
Anyone with information about this incident, or dashcam footage from Hwy. 101 westbound between 9:20 p.m. and 9:45 p.m., or Hwy. 1 eastbound between 9:40 p.m. and 9:50 p.m. on August 2, is asked to contact East Hants District RCMP at 902-883-7077.
