Police investigate fatal house fire

Cumberland County District RCMP is investigating a fatal house fire that occurred in Advocate Harbour.

On February 19, at approximately 5 p.m., Cumberland County District RCMP and fire responded to a residential fire on Hwy. 209. When RCMP officers arrived at the scene, the home and a barn were engulfed in flames. Due to the severity of the fire, both structures were completely destroyed.

The remains of a person were located inside the home.

Preliminary investigation has led police to believe that the fire is not suspicious at this time. The investigation is being conducted by Cumberland County District RCMP, with assistance from the Nova Scotia Fire Marshal’s Office, the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation
