Police investigate home invasion in Waverley

Prior to 8:30 p.m. last evening, Halifax District RCMP responded to a 911 call of a home invasion at a home on Joe St. in Waverley.

A 56-year-old woman heard a knock at her door, looked out and observed a man who informed her he was a police officer. She opened the door, at which time she was assaulted and sprayed with a sensory irritant. At this time, three other men, all wearing masks and described as being of large build and tall, also entered the home but all four men immediately left. The first male, who she opened her door for, is described as being white, late twenties, with scruffy blond hair, 5’6 and average weight. He was wearing dark clothing and a ball cap.

All four men proceeded to run from the house and are suspected of having fled the area in a car parked near Waverley Rd. The victim was treated at the scene by EHS for minor injuries. The other person in the home at the time of the incident, a 26-year-old woman, was not injured.

RCMP Police Dog Services and RCMP Forensic Identification Section assisted with the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the General Investigative Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division. Police are asking anyone with information to contact Halifax District RCMP or Halifax Regional Police at 902-490-5020. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you can also contact Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or text TIP202 + your message to ‘CRIMES’ (274637) or submit tips by Secure Web Tips atwww.crimestoppers.ns.ca.
