Police investigate homicide near Mumford, releasing victim’s name

Halifax Regional Police is continuing to investigate a homicide that occurred in Halifax yesterday.

At approximately 5:05 p.m. police responded to a report of an injured person in the parking lot of a shopping centre at 7001 Mumford Road. Officers located a youth who was taken to hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.

Today, the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service conducted an autopsy and confirmed the manner of death to be a homicide. The victim was identified as 16-year-old Ahmad Maher Al Marrach. Our thoughts are with Ahmad’s loved ones.

Yesterday, officers arrested two youths who were released earlier today without charges in relation to the homicide investigation.

At this time investigators do not believe this was a random incident. The investigation is ongoing, and more information will be provided when it becomes available.

We are aware that the public is sharing information and videos on social media in relation to the incident. We would caution anyone from spreading misinformation or these images for integrity of the investigation and more importantly out of respect for the young man’s family. Investigators are asking anyone with information or video from the area to call police at 902-490-5020
