From RCMP:
April 26, 2011, Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) … Members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are investigating two incidents of vehicle fuel tanks drilled for the purpose of stealing gasoline.

The incidents happened on April 25, 2011 between 3:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. on Lundy Drive in Cole Harbour.  In both cases, a hole was drilled into the gas tank located in front of the rear wheel on the driver's side.  The vehicles targeted were full-sized pick-up trucks.

RCMP would like to advise motorists of this type of crime so they can take appropriate steps to protect themselves.  This may involve parking the vehicle close to a house or other large immovable object as to cut off access to the fuel tank.  Motorists of all vehicle types are advised invest in a locking gas cap and to consider security lighting as a possible deterrent to this and other types of property crime.
