Police investigate multiple incidents of stolen vehicles

December 7, 2012, Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) . . . Police are investigating several incidents of vehicles stolen overnight.
This morning at 4:26 a.m., RCMP in Tantallon responded to a call that two vehicles, a Volkswagen Golf and Kia Rio, had just been stolen from a residence on Shankel Road in Hubbards. Police located the stolen vehicles traveling toward Halifax on Highway 103. Both vehicles left the highway at Exit 5 and as police attempted to make an arrest, the Volkswagen struck a patrol car. The second vehicle sped off and continued towards Halifax on Hwy 103. As police approached Volkswagen, it  also sped off on Highway 103.
Approximately twenty minutes later, the stolen Kia was located and stopped by police on the Timberlea Parkway just off Exit 3 and Hwy 103. The driver, a 21-year-old male from Halifax, was arrested. He is currently in police custody and charges are pending.
Around this time police located a Ford Taurus near Exit 5 on Hwy 103 that was reported stolen on December 4, 2012. A 19-year-old from Halifax was found hitchhiking nearby on the highway. Police arrested the male for violation of his court conditions. The investigation into that incident is ongoing. And at 6:40 a.m. this morning, Cole Harbour RCMP received a report of a truck was stolen overnight from a driveway on Jeep Crescent in Eastern Passage. Anyone with information on that incident is asked to contact police.
Theft of Motor Vehicles is a serious crime that affects all residents of HRM. Stolen vehicles are often used in the commission of other crimes and are often driven in a careless or reckless manor. This puts everyone at risk – citizens who use the roadways, and enforcement personnel trying to bring these criminals to justice. The RCMP is Canada’s police force and is committed to keeping Canadian’s safe.
