Over the course of the afternoon several businesses in the Dartmouth area have received phone calls from a party identifying himself as a firefighter. The party continues to instruct the employee of the business to trigger the fire alarm as a routine test to their system. This is a hoax. This causes an undue stress to emergency services and is a crime.
After consultation with Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency Services it has been verified that this is not a practice they employ. Police are now investigating and request that anyone with information in relation to these calls, contact police at (902) 490-5016. Anonymous tips can be sent to Crime Stoppers by calling toll-free 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), submitting a secure web tip at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca or texting a tip – Tip 202 + your message to 274637.
