Police investigate suspicious fire

RCMP release:

Meteghan RCMP is investigating a suspicious structure fire that occurred in Belliveau’s Cove.

On August 14, just after midnight, Meteghan RCMP and fire services responded to a report of a fire at a building on the public grounds in Belliveau’s Cove. Fire services was able to contain the fire to a bathroom area, which sustained significant damage. There was no one inside the building at the time of the fire.

The preliminary investigation, assisted by the Nova Scotia Fire Marshal, indicates the fire is suspicious in nature and may have started on the outside of the building. Investigators believe that at least two people were near the building when the fire started and may have witnessed the incident.

The investigation is ongoing, led by the Meteghan RCMP with assistance from the Yarmouth/Clare Street Crime Enforcement Unit. At this time, investigators have no information to suggest that this incident is related to any previous suspicious fires in the area.
