Police investigate theft of copper wire

Release:

August 18, 2011, Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) . . . Halifax District Royal Canadian Mounted Police are requesting the public's assistance in recent incidents of theft of copper wire in Lower Sackville and Wellington, Nova Scotia.

On August 15, 2011, police were asked to investigate a number of street lights not working on Pratt and Whitney Drive, near Old Guysborough Road in Goffs, Nova Scotia.  The investigation found copper wire had been removed from the conduits that run between the light poles.  Scorch marks were found on one pole, which illustrates the danger of this type of theft.  A vehicle may have been used to remove the wire.

On August 17, 5:00 PM, RCMP received a call from a business located on Highway #2, Wellington, Nova Scotia.   A storage container had been broken into and three rolls of copper wire were stolen.  Suspects had removed a large lock to gain access to the container.  The copper wire was rolled onto nearby railway tracks.  Police believe a truck was then used to transport the large rolls of wire.  The cost of the wire is estimated to be approximately $9000.

Police do not believe these incidents are connected to the recent arrest of two males for Theft of Copper Wire in Lower Sackville.
