June 9, 2011, Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) . . . Royal Canadian Mounted Police are investigating two recent collisions between vehicles and bicycles.
On June 8, 2011, 6:52 PM, RCMP received a call that an eight -year-old boy on a bicycle was struck by a vehicle on Robert Street, Fall River, Nova Scotia. A vehicle was traveling on the roadway when the child came out of a driveway into the path of the oncoming car. There was a collision that resulted in minor injuries to the boy.
On June 8, 2011, 7:04 PM, Police attended the scene of a motor vehicle collision involving a bicycle on Myra Road, Porters Lake, Nova Scotia. A boy riding a bike came off a trail and did not stop before pulling onto the road. The driver of the car attempted to stop but collided with the bicycle. The child received minor injuries.
HRM Partners in Policing would like to remind parents to ensure that children are educated on road safety. It is important to do the ABC check every time – AIR in the tires, BRAKES are working, and that the CHAIN is in good working condition. And always wear a helmet!
Motorists are reminded that with the good weather and the end of the school season approaching, there will be many more children riding their bikes. Please use extra diligence and caution as the children will be out on our streets and nearby pathways.
