Halifax Regional Police is investigating an attempted abduction that
occurred on October 9, 2012, at approximately 3:30 p.m.
 
A woman was walking in the area of Falkland Street and Maynard Street
in Halifax when she was approached by a man driving a newer red minivan
with an automatic sliding door. The man exited the vehicle and attempted
to forcibly get the woman to enter the vehicle. The woman was able to
break free from the man, fled the area and contacted police. She was not
injured in the incident and does not know her attacker.
 
Police are looking for a white man in his late forties or early
fifties, 6’ tall, with a pot belly, scruffy greying beard and brown
eyes. At the time, he was wearing a blue baseball hat, dark sweatshirt,
blue jeans and he had a strong smell of cologne. He also spoke with a
scratchy voice.
 
Investigators assigned to the HRP/RCMP Integrated Major Crime Unit are
looking to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the incident. Anyone
with information about this incident is asked to contact police at
