Police Investigating Car/Pedestrian Collision

Halifax Regional Police is urging motorists to slow down and pay extra attention to their surroundings following four separate car/pedestrian collisions in marked crosswalks in the 24-hr period beginning December 18 at 5:45 p.m., and continuing to December 19 at 6 p.m.
On December 19, at 5:57 p.m., police responded to a collision on Windmill Road, close to the intersection Jamieson Street in Dartmouth. A 30-year-old male pedestrian was hit in a marked crosswalk by a vehicle travelling south on Windmill Road. He suffered minor injuries and was transported to hospital by EHS for treatment. A 21-year-old male driver was charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and also for being a licensed learner operating a motor vehicle without an experienced driver present in the vehicle.
This collision is in addition to two collisions in crosswalks on December 19 and one on the evening of December 18.
Police remind motorists and pedestrians that road safety is a shared responsibility. Motorists are reminded to adjust their driving habits and be mindful of possible changes in road conditions which could affect their ability to stop safely and limit visibility. Pedestrians are reminded to make eye contact with drivers and wait until vehicles come to a complete stop before attempting to cross the road at marked crosswalks.
