Police Investigating Fatal Collision​ – Dartmouth

Police are currently on scene of a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred earlier tonight in Dartmouth.

At 11:16 p.m., police responded to the Akerley Boulevard East of Gloria McCluskey Avenue to a report of a vehicle on fire. It was determined that the vehicle was travelling West bound on Akerley Boulevard and went off the road striking a guardrail and then a wall. The engine caught on fire but was extinguished by another motorist. The male passenger was helped from the vehicle and taken to hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The male driver was declared deceased at the scene. ​

Officers from the HRP Forensic Identification Section, HRP Accident Investigation Unit and Patrol are currently on scene conducting their investigation. The West bound lane on Akerley Boulevard is shut down at the accident site and vehicles are being turned around onto the East bound lane which is flowing normally. It is expected that the west bound traffic will be effected for a few more hours.

***.Akerley Blvd has now been re-opened to traffic in both directions.​
