Police Investigating Property Damage Involving Racist Symbol

Police investigating possible hate crime on Sept 17

Halifax Regional Police is investigating an incident of property damage in Dartmouth involving a racist symbol.

At 9:15 last night, a complainant reported to police that they witnessed a man smashing out the windows of a vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence on Lahey Road. The suspect then ran to a vehicle waiting on Victoria Road and fled the scene. When officers arrived, they saw that the windows and headlights had been smashed, the tires had been slashed, and a racist symbol had been spray-painted on the hood of the vehicle. Officers searched the area but weren’t able to locate the suspect.

The suspect is described as a white man, 19 or 20 years old with a skinny build, wearing a red ball hat, blue short-sleeved shirt and blue baggy jean shorts. No description of the vehicle is available.

Investigators are exploring the possibility that hate was a motivating factor in this incident.
