Police Investigating Two Car/Pedestrian Collisions

Halifax Regional Police is urging motorists to slow down and pedestrians to pay extra attention to their surroundings following two car/pedestrian collisions in HRM today.
At 11:32 a.m., police responded to a car/pedestrian collision at the intersection of Hartlen Street and Main Street in Dartmouth. A 57-year-old man crossing Main Street in a marked crosswalk was hit by a vehicle turning from Hartlen Street onto Main Street. He suffered minor injuries and was transported to hospital by EHS. A 52-year-old female driver was charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
At 12:30 p.m., police responded to a car/pedestrian collision at the intersection of Dutch Village Road and Deal Street in Halifax. A 27-year-old man crossing Dutch Village Road in a marked crosswalk was hit by a vehicle travelling eastbound on Dutch Village Road. He suffered minor injuries and was transported to hospital by EHS. An 85-year-old female driver was charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
Police remind motorists and pedestrians that road safety is a shared responsibility. Motorists are reminded to pay attention to the road and drive defensively. Be particularly mindful at crosswalks and keep a watchful eye for pedestrians. Pedestrians are reminded to make eye contact with drivers and wait until vehicles come to a complete stop before attempting to cross the road at marked crosswalks.
