RCMP release:

RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment is asking for information from the public after a violent theft of a van in Upper Tantallon. 

On January 18, at approximately 8:43 p.m., RCMP officers responded to a report of a vehicle theft that had just occurred on French Village Station Rd. Officers learned that the driver of a Ford Transit van was parked when a suspect pulled them out of the van and threw them to the ground. The suspect then drove off in the van toward Highway 103.

The driver of the van was not injured.

The suspect is described as a man, possibly in his 30s, about 5-foot-10, with a slim-to-medium build. He was wearing dark clothing and a face mask.

The Ford Transit was located a short time later in the 7900 block of St. Margarets Bay Rd. in Ingramport, due to a GPS tracking device. Halifax Regional Police Canine Unit assisted in attempting to track the suspect, who was not located.

RCMP Forensic Identification Services is assisting with the ongoing investigation.

Anyone with information on the incident, including dashcam footage from the area of Hammonds Plains Rd., from French Village Station Rd. to Highway 103, and Highway 103 westbound from Tantallon to Ingramport, between 8:30 p.m. and 8:45 p.m., is asked to contact RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment at 902‑490‑5020.
