Following the recent storm and drop in temperatures, police are warning motorists and pedestrians to use caution on the roadways.

There has been a number of collisions this morning, including several vehicles that spun out of control on the 100 series highways. Most roads are still ice covered and very slippery so please slow down and take your time.

Winter driving conditions can vary dramatically and require the driver’s full attention. Often times road conditions warrant a significantly slower speed then what is posted. Remember to allow extra time for your commute so you don’t feel you have to rush. When the roads are slippery, a vehicle’s stopping distance increases so allow extra space between you and the car ahead. When approaching a red light or stop sign, begin stopping earlier to help prevent sliding into the intersection. Given the slippery conditions, pedestrians should wait until vehicles come to a complete stop before entering the roadway to cross at crosswalks.

Please do your part to make the roads safe today and for the rest of the winter.
