Police lay drug and weapons charges

Release:
July 28, 2011, Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) . . . The RCMP/HRP Integrated Drug Unit along with Halifax District RCMP members have laid drug and weapons charges against a 46-year-old man from Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia.
On July 25, 2011, 9:13 p.m., members of Halifax District RCMP received information about drugs in a storage unit in Cole Harbour.  A search warrant was obtained.  Police seized a large quantity of marihuana (approx. 4.6 kg), hydromorphone pills (545), illegal cigarettes (82 bags of 200 per bag) and an unregistered firearm.
As a result of information gathered at the scene of the original investigation, police executed a search warrant at a residence on Main Street in Eastern Passage on July 26, 2011.  They seized marihuana (194 grams) and $38,610 in cash.
A 46-year-old male from Eastern Passage was arrested without incident and will be appearing in Dartmouth Provincial Court on September 7, 2011.  He will face charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, including Section 5 (2) Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking X 2 as well as charges under the Criminal Code including Section 91 (1) Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Section 86 (1) Unsafe Storage of a Firearm and Section 354 (1) Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.
HRM Partners in Policing remind citizens to report suspicious activity in their communities to police.  Signs of drug storage or production include pungent, oily smells coming from storage facilities or houses that appear to be mainly unoccupied with consistently drawn blinds and irregular vehicle traffic.  Police are requesting anyone who may have any information on suspected drug operations to contact any RCMP office, Halifax Regional Police, or Crime Stoppers anonymously anytime at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca.  Calls to Crime Stoppers are not taped or traced.  If police make an arrest and lay charges based on a tip, callers qualify for a cash award from $50 – $2000.
