Police lay multiple charges for impaired driving overnight.

Police have charged several people in relation to six separate impaired driving investigations overnight. Two of those investigations also led to drug and firearms related charges.

Just before 2:30 a.m. September 14, officers were conducting a checkpoint at the Armdale Roundabout in Halifax which resulted in two suspected impaired drivers being issued suspensions and multiple summary offence tickets.

Shortly after 3 a.m., an officer stopped a vehicle for suspected impaired driving on the Bedford Highway near Flamingo Drive in Halifax. The driver attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended after a very short pursuit. The twenty-two-year-old Halifax man is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date to face charges of impaired driving, refusal of a breath demand and obstructing a peace officer.

Shortly before 4 a.m., police stopped a vehicle for suspected impaired driving in the 1900 block of Gottingen Street in Halifax. As a result of the investigation a firearm was located in the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, a twenty-eight-year-old Halifax man is scheduled to appear later today in Halifax Provincial Court to face multiple weapons related charges.

At approximately 4:45 a.m., police stopped a vehicle for suspected impaired driving in the 1900 block of Barrington Street in Halifax. As a result of the investigation a quantity of drugs and related paraphernalia were located. The driver a twenty-year-old Cole Harbour man, was charged with impaired driving and possession for the purpose of trafficking. The passenger, a twenty-two-year-old Halifax man, was also charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking. They are scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court later today.
