On April 12 at approximately 3:35 p.m. police received a report of a theft that had occurred at a mosque on Matthias Street. Two men stole money from donation boxes inside the building and fled the area on foot.
On April 14 police received a report of a second theft at the same location that had occurred earlier that day at approximately 3:15 a.m. A man stole money from donation boxes inside the building and fled the area on foot.
On April 14 members from the Quick Response Unit arrested a 39-year-old man near Faulkner Street in Dartmouth and a 32-year-old man near Hillcrest Drive in Halifax in relation to the thefts.
As a result of the investigations, officers identified the 39-year-old man as also being responsible for a theft from donation boxes at a mosque on Larry Uteck Boulevard on April 10. Members from the Quick Response Unit arrested him without incident last night in relation to this incident.
The 39-year-old man has been charged with three counts of theft under $5,000 and three counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. The 32-year-old man has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. Both men are scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court at a later date to face the charges.
